words from the dead

sooooo....yeah....i never seem to blog.... >_<

anyway...next week gallery ok opens up again which means that staysee and i are both gonna be in the show for this month! come out and see it if you can, it starts at 6pm on thursday! i will have some photography up, dunno what exactly staysee will have.

after this show, we're gonna be working on our boxes for the annual box show occurring the first thursday of october. after that, i don't know when the next time i'll be in a show is. i really need to work on photography though. maybe another trip to lake view or another cemetery sometime this fall...which means i need to get my camera fixed because - yes - my regular camera is still not fixed. U_U i've been using the digital point and shoot this year to take photos as it's easier than my regular point and shoot (and is much much better), but still want to be able to use traditional film...*sigh* note to self: actually remember to grab lens one day and stop by the camera store after work...

have some pictures! i took these out my window one night when the sun was very very red.

July's Art stuffs

So I've had basically 3 art walks this month; the Georgetown Art Attack, the Georgetown Art & Garden Walk and the Alki Art Walk. The 1st was a Saturday from 6 to 9pm. The day started with me having a flat tire but a friend rescued me from that (thanks a ton to her). Then when getting to the area, I find out that the best entrance to the space is not going to be open because of some issues that totally didn't concern me. Luckily we had some great signs to lead people back to the other door. But all that aside, the night went pretty well. I sold an original and a print and gave out lots of cards. You can read someone else's impression of the night at http://ilikepretty.blogspot.com/ if you want. And the night ended with my rescuer and I trying out an interesting vegan restaurant called Squid & Ink (where I discovered Banana Sauce, which anyone who is looking for a good substitute for ketchup should try). The 2nd walk was the next day from 10am until 5pm. This one was totally unplanned and I didn't even have time to let anybody know I would be there.... So, Sunday I get up early and I proceed to spend the whole day basically by myself with James (guy who curates the place) not coming in at all let alone bringing me lunch nor helping me take stuff down like he promised. Very few people came in and the ones who did were more interested in the space and the stuff in it (which both are cool, I admit) than my paintings. And where I was, I couldn't even people watch. The only things that kept me sane were a record player with a bunch of records and me drawing a bit with a sharpie in a notebook. Oh and of course I didn't sell a thing. Lame but I guess they all can't be good.

And the 3rd one was on Alki yesterday. This one went the best for sure. I stayed out way too late on Friday night but still managed to get down there before 8am to set up. That part went pretty well except that the wind knocked over a framed print into my coffee which spilled the almost full cup onto my sweatshirt and ruined the framed print. But in the whole scheme of things, it wasn't a total disaster. I didn't end up needing the sweatshirt and the print is replaceable. There were other times during the day that we were really worried about the weather and thought our tent was going to end up in the Sound. But luckily we managed to keep everything on the ground. On the bright side, I sold an original right away. Okay, it was planned that she was going to come down and see it in person and officially decide on buying it. But she did so that was cool. And I sold a bunch of prints the rest of the day, with "Getting Wet" being the main one of the day. The day went pretty fast for a 12 hour day (8 am to about 8 pm with set up and take down). I had a few friends stop by (including Fen) and talked to a ton of people. Oh, and since there was two of us (I shared the booth with my friend Angie), one of us could always go for food, drink, walks or bathroom breaks. Our plan all along was to sit on the beach, people watch , eat all day and sell a ton of our stuff... not quite a ton was sold but the other three things were totally accomplished. And by the end, I decided that I did well enough to treat myself with earrings (dangling orange-y colored fresh water pearls) from the booth next door. I got home last night, dragged in all my stuff and totally crashed on my couch for the rest of the night.

Scratchy Scratchy

I do scratch board sketches every once in awhile. I don't remember doing them before college but I have been doing them at least since then. Below are some of them.

This is a portrait of Tony even though I don't know what he looks like.

I call this one "Catscratch".

This one is from college... I call it "Jack & the Moon"

Also from college... it is "Flowerface"

I've done others of course. You saw my "bassment" one in a previous blog. I also tend to give them away. A teachery one for my sister, portrait of her cat for Amy, an "O is for Owl" for Fen and a penguin for Sarah and so on.

an interesting find

so i was browsing my normal fare of sites and followed a link to this: childhood fears. it's very interesting. apparently it's all just costumes, sets, and props. here's the artist's site with more images.

spring sprang sprung

sooooo yeah....guess who hasn't been blogging? that's right: ME! i've pretty much ignored this and my writing blog for the past few months. the excuse i've been using is that i'm busy. busy with work, busy with social stuff, and then too tired and uninspired otherwise. i know that part of it is because i've been slightly anti-social of late. just more and more introverted. which probably means i've been stretching myself thin in the being extroverted department. *le sigh*

in the past few months most of the art i've done is photographs. i got a digital point and shoot back in january, so i've been using that. the main lens to my slr still hasn't been fixed. i just never take it with me when i'm downtown, so i never get it in to the store to be fixed. gotta get that done sometime...anyway, here's a photo to tide things over until i get my photo files edited (why oh why must the pictures come out nicely, then be so much darker when they load onto my computer?!?):

Art for a Good Cause

I have decided to donate one of my paintings to be auctioned off in a Silent Art Auction. All proceeds from the auction goes directly towards the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The money will help provide blood cancer patients with an improved quality-of-life as well as a hope for a cure. I'm donating "Sunlight on Water" which is one of three that the contacts said were their favorites.

The auction will be held on Tuesday, May 20th at the Pyramid Alehouse in Seattle @ 6:30 pm if anyone is interested. Go to www.triart4acure.blogspot.com for more info.
